The Unawatuna Beach

Having been voted ‘The World’s Best Tropical Beach’ by the Discovery Channel and Mark Ellingham, founder of the Rough Guides described it as ‘The Best Beach in the World’. This beach heaven boasts of golden banana shaped sands, blue sparkling waters, fringed with palm trees, the perfect sight to relax your soul.  The beach offers a variety of activities to choose from exhilarating water sports such as diving, snorkelling and bodyboarding to much more calming and spectacular activities of embarking on a glass bottom boat to admire the beautiful coral reefs. The beach also invites yoga enthusiasts to practice the soulful connection with the rising sun stretching out its arms and sending out its blessings. The beach is so secure that swimming in it all year round is recommended. Famous attractions near Unawatuna beach are the cultural attractions to sightsee in the Galle Fort named as a World Heritage site is a 15-minute walk from the beach.

The Bentota Beach

Situated in the south coast of Sri Lanka, Bentota carries with it a unique feature. A long strip of sand shimmering in gold stretching far out as a beach island, cocooned with lush greenery and turquoise waves lapping on both sides. This low key beach is one of the best beaches for swimming and wind surfing in Sri Lanka.  Another fun activity to engage in at Bentota is to visit the Turtle Hatchery, where you can release baby turtles back into their natural habitats. This is said to be a calming experience when witnessing the little fins move towards the ocean, a start to embarking new life.

 

Travelling to Bentota

The Marble Beach

Marble Beach situated in the east coast around 15 km from Trincomalee. It is an untouched beauty bordered by a beautiful cove paved with a stretch of woodland on one side. The beach is named after the crystal-clear waves that exhibits the beautiful marble like stones fast asleep on the seabed. The most popular activity to be carried out is snorkeling since the waters are calm and unlike the other beaches in Sri Lanka, quite a big stretch is provided for snorkeling. Lying silently beneath the surface are beautiful network of corals that provide the perfect learning experience from the floating schools of brightly colored fish. Also, as the beach is controlled by the Sri Lankan Air Force, the beach is highly secure and there are lifeguards on duty, combined with the mild waves it is one of the best beaches for swimming. You can also observe beautiful wildlife in the woodlands fringed at the side of the beach providing a sanctuary for monkeys and peacocks. The sweet aroma of freshly prepared food from the restaurant will call out to you and there you will be able to feast on a delicious meal. Attractions near Marble Beach is the Konneswaram Temple which is one of the oldest Hindu temples in the country and the Kanniya hot water springs which is said to promote relaxation and relieve skin irritations.

 

Travelling to Marble beach

This hidden paradise is a tiring 5 hour ride from the Colombo international airport but Cinnamon air flies in to your rescue providing flights to Trincomalee. From Trincomalee this exotic beach experience is only a short drive of 28 minutes away.
